Design Wall Monday 021218 Hand Prints

Our preschool art show is coming up.  Our class is working on assembling the hand print blocks the kids gave me for my birthday back in the fall.

Blocks numbered and ready to web.

At the last minute I had a brainstorm of how the kids (4- and 5-years old) could each have a turn to sew, but the blocks wouldn't get out of order.  Webbing is how I usually assemble blocks.  I realized that if I numbered the blocks in order and each child picked up the assigned number(s) it would work.

Block #20 chosen to be next.
Sure enough.  It worked and was good math practice in the process.  They can count, but this was number recognition.  We also worked out the pattern - color plain color plain color plain.  A very good lesson before it is even the quilt that they can't wait to finish.

First step in webbing complete.

Stash Report 021118

Fabric Out:  Binding for Carnival Quilt  0.35 yards  I had already counted out the front and backing a few weeks ago.
2018 Carnival Auction Quilt
The Carnival date usually sneaks up on me, so I am glad to have this done in plenty of time and not be rushed.  I'll try to get out of work early one day to go take it to the class in person.
Back - the white has green shamrocks in it!

Fabric In:  Nothing - again!! I stopped by the thrift store briefly for the first time in weeks and thankfully they had no quilting fabric.  I got canning lids instead - 2 unopened boxes for $1/box !!

Fabric Purchased this week: 0 yards
Fabric Purchased YTD: 13.13 yards

Fabric Used this week:   0.35 yards
Fabric Used YTD: 20.26 yards

Total: 7.13 yards used

Little by little I am headed in the right direction.

Less work brought home, so more sewing in the evenings.  It doesn't show in my stash, but it was progress towards a finish.  Still one night when I just didn't have any more oomph.  But that's okay.  Overall I am progressing and that is good.  Haven't started anything new and even have a few finishes lately, so I am pleased.

Oh Happy Day

Look what I found on my rear view mirror when I came out of the grocery store yesterday afternoon!

An older couple nearby had a similar greeting on their window and were giddy as they loaded their groceries.

Thank you Happy Note Fairy!!  As a working mom who feels like I just go from task to task and wonder where the week went and what I am doing, this was just what I needed to hear.

Friday Finish 020918

Boxy Stars is done.  I really like how this came out.  I made it purple and pink because that is what I had on hand in 2.5" strips when I needed a project.  Little S does NOT like pink, so I figured I would just wait until the right recipient came along.
A generous twin.

Well, when she saw it all finished she asked if she could have it!  Awww.  "Of course you have it, but you need to make your bed so we can see it!"
I like the dark purple binding.

This one has been waiting for a long time and I'm glad it is done and glad that I still like it.

January Progress and February Goals

I found a few more quilts to add to my UFO list and fortunately they were little and I was off work and I finished them when I found them since they were just what I needed at the time.  So I am doing well as January ends.  We will see what February brings.  A deadline quilt looms, so there will be one done for sure!

Stash Report 020418

I didn't think I would have any movement of fabric to report this week, but I did.  In the right direction, too!!

Fabric In: NADA  NYET  NOTHING  I've been too busy with other things to get to the thrift store and that's okay.

Fabric Out:
I gave away a sheet that I had gotten a while back to use as a backing since I have had such a difficult time with sheets lately.  4.4 yards

I remembered just in time that I had set aside fabric and purchased binding for a Valentines apron to use at work.  I use an apron every day at work and little by little I am broadening my collection to match the weekly themes.  This past week was Ocean Week and the kids got a kick out of my ocean apron.   0.58 yards
Just in time!

Boxy Stars got its binding. 0.54 yards
Binding is done!
I love that plaid!

Fabric Used this week: 5.52 yards
Fabric Used YTD: 19.91 yards

Total: 6.68 yards used

There was just a little bit of work brought home this week, but that was because my work days were super long getting ready for our yearly fundraiser rummage sale.  I was determined though and still did a bit every day except Friday.  Even Saturday after a VERY long day of sale and clean up and taking leftovers to various places I still got sewing in.  That was very therapeutic!!
