Stash Report 022215

Spinning Octagon blocks done - at last.  Huge undertaking for a UFO and I'm not even sure I still like it.  You can read more about that here.

And 24 squares of white cotton went to school for a project using bleeding tissue paper. My test scrap was good.  Can't wait to see how the real thing comes out.

Fabric Used This Week:  3.5 yards Spinning Octagon blocks + 2.67 yards for bleeding tissue project at school
Fabric In This Week:  0 yards
Total In 2015: 1.5 yards
Net Used 2015:  21.55  yards

Spinning Octagons Done

Now to figure out what to do with them.  They were a 20 year old UFO with pieces cut out by scissors from a cardboard pattern so the uniformity is not quite there.  The pineapple borders are good since I cut them recently but the stars are not.
My current idea is to replace the white corners with a color to complement the blue corners - maybe purple. Then cut them into uniform sized squares. Then add white sashing and corner stones of another complementary color - maybe yellow - to make the eye look there instead of the crookedness of the stars.  I will have to think on it for a while.  At least I got it this far.

The original pattern used 42 blocks.  That would be huge.  These are supposed to finish at 14".  I think 12 with sashing and borders will be a nice twin and that will be fine.
I also got these Dr Seuss aprons finished for work.  I don't think we will be able to get them dirty.

Dr Seuss on the Loose

Stash Report 021515

Finally have some fabric to report out. In early March we will celebrate Dr Seuss's birthday in our class.  We wear aprons every day.  I made Super Hero Aprons back in the spring.  So of course I had to make these special Dr Seuss aprons this year.  For practicality sake I had hoped for a fabric with a darker background, but it was this or something also white but directional.  We'll have to avoid paint that week!
Too cute to get dirty I think!
The Dr Seuss fabric was paid for by school and was used for school so I did not count that as in or out in my stash. However, the strings and pockets came from the stash.  Yahoo, fabric out.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments last week on it being okay to have fabric in for a purpose.  I have to remember that there are times when you can't have a finish without something to finish with.

Fabric Used This Week:  0.4 yards for apron strings and pockets
Fabric In This Week:  0 yards
Total In 2015: 1.5 yards
Net Used 2015:  15.38  yards

Trying for a Finish

Stash Report 020815

Sadly, fabric came in this week. I am trying to finish the Spinning Octogon project and it is not going well. I feel like I am too far in to just quit but it is an uphill climb.   Since I am pretty insecure about this project I am trying to follow the original pattern in the book. Maybe that's the problem - following directions - since I'm not too good at that!  I'm much better at making it up as I go along.

Just 8 more to go
Anyways I needed just a bit of orange so I got 2 remnants and 2 quarter yard pieces of yardage.  That gives me a bit of variety and enough left over to add some color to other scrappy projects.  Hard to believe that with all the fabric I have there was no orange.
The Dr. Seuss fabric was paid for by school and will be used for a specific project for school so I'm not counting that as going into my stash although the more I look at it the more I like it.

I was unable to sew at all this week so the incoming fabric looks even worse but it is what it is.

Fabric Used This Week:  0 yards
Fabric In This Week: 1.5 yards orange for Spinning Octagons
Total In 2015: 1.5 yards
Net Used 2015:  14.98  yards

Carnival Quilt is Done!

Stash Report 020115

I almost didn't have anything to report today. I worked sporadically at little stuff but nothing got finished until last night when I bit the bullet and got the  Carnival Quilt quilted and bound.  Whew!!

The school mascot is the sea turtle and I had the perfect fabric to back it.  I bound it with the lime green gingham since I found almost enough strips already cut when I got out my mother's gingham to make this quilt.  I think it works fine with the turtles.

Fabric Used This Week: 2.07 yards  for backing & binding for Carnival Quilt
Fabric In This Week: 0 yards
Total In 2015: 0  yards
Net Used 2015:  16.48 yards
