Stash Report 033014

Lots of little progress.  Long overdue protectors for the arm rests of my dad's two recliners.  Not great, but done and used up something from the stash.

Finally bound the pink & purple quilt.  Bound the blue & green quilt also, but since I used the trimmings from the backing it had already been counted as used.  Since I usually can only sew in small spurts of found time, my progress is slow, but I'm okay with that.
If the baby is a girl I will take the pink quilt.  If the baby is a boy, I'll take the blue!

When I first started the blog and linking up to the stash report I decided to report as "used" the amount for a completed step of a project - blocks, sashing, border, etc - rather than an entire completed project.  The reason being that a little progress regularly would be more encouraging and motivating than a giant chunk every now and then.  It is working.  Every week I make extra effort to get something done and something used up!

Fabric Used This Week: 1 yard for recliner arm protectors, .35 yards for binding for pink & purple quilt
Total Used 2014:  20.95 yards
Fabric In This Week:  0 yds
Total Bought/Received in 2014: 7.25 yards
Net Used 2014: 13.7 yards

It's Friday and I have a Finish!

Getting Back on the Horse

The pink & purple quilt has been quilted!!

After a rough first attempt 2 weeks ago in which I spent more time unsewing than sewing due to bad tension and the start of a bad cold, I have not wanted to touch this quilt again.  But with nothing for show & tell for the guild meeting this morning and knowing that in another month this quilt will be on its way to Guatemala and I won't have it for show & tell, I got back on the proverbial horse and did it.  And got it done in record time.

Go see some other finishes at Crazy Mom Quilts and  Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

Note: The pattern is a small version of Tumalo Trails found in Bonnie Hunter's book Scraps & Shirttails II.

Stash Report 011214

My helper was barely able to hold it in the wind.
Some change since last week.  Got the borders on!!!

For the backing I have a plan to use some white & pink flowery fabrics that I have tucked away since I am a packrat and save everything!  I know I will not use it for anything else since I don't even like them, so in my effort to use it up this year I will use them in a pieced backing.

Since it seems to take me a good while to finish things due to lots of demands for my time, I thought about how to report fabric used.  If I wait until a project is all done progress will be so slow I will probably be frustrated.  I know that this is not the time in my life for lots of sewing, so I am content with sewing in short bursts as I am able.  So I decided that to see progress I would report fabric as used when that step in the overall project is finished.  So this week I can report the borders as done and fabric used.

Fabric Used: 1.2 yards from stash for pink/purple baby quilt borders - plain & piano keys
Fabric Bought: 0 yards
Total Used 2014: 3.5 yards

I have never before stopped to do the math - even though I really do love math - on total fabric used to make a quilt.  It is amazing to me that all those little squares and triangles and rectangles added up to 3.5 yards.  Good thing it was all from stash - but I can't even tell it is gone!!

The design is just 16 squares of Bonnie Hunter's Tumalo Trail from her book Scraps & Shirttails II.
